पश्चिम बंगाल विधानसभा चुनाव में तृणमूल कांग्रेस की हार के बाद पार्टी नेतृत्व पर सवाल उठाते हुए तीनों नेताओं ने जून में राज्यसभा की सदस्यता से इस्तीफा दे दिया था और पार्टी भी छोड़ दी थी. अप्रैल में हुए पश्चिम बंगाल विधानसभा चुनाव में भाजपा को भारी बहुमत मिलने के बाद राज्य की तीनों राज्यसभा सीट पर भी भाजपा की जीत लगभग तय मानी जा रही है। इन सीट के लिए 24 जुलाई को उपचुनाव होंगे और मतगणना भी उसी दिन की जाएगी.
